The T'au Commander Battlesuit is perhaps the single most important model you can have in a T'au Empire army in Warhammer 40,000.
In 10th Edition of Warhammer 40,000, the Commander model you purchase in the set is divided into two game profiles (Datasheets), both of which have the leadership role:
1. Commander in Enforcer Battlesuit (XV85)
Role: Rugged and versatile leader. The Enforcer variant is built with heavier armor.
Benefit: Gives the unit it leads extra durability, often by giving them better defensive capabilities.
Where to find it: The Commander in Enforcer Battlesuit is the model included in the new T'au Combat Patrol set (called "The Sudden Dawn Cadre").
2. Commander in Coldstar Battlesuit (XV86)
Role: Ultra-fast attacker and flanker. Coldstar is known for its powerful jet system which makes it extremely mobile.
Benefit: Gives the unit it leads the Assault keyword for their weapons, allowing them to advance and fire without penalty to accuracy - perfect for charging across the battlefield.
Mobility: Has a higher movement value than most other models on the board.
🛠️ The Construction Kit and Customization
The plastic kit, which allows you to build either an Enforcer or Coldstar, is notorious for its flexibility and comes with a huge selection of weapons and support systems for you to use.
Although the rules now have specific restrictions on which weapons you can give the Commander (e.g. a maximum of one of each special type in the new Codex), the set is still rich in parts:
Main Weapons: Includes the most popular choices:
Cyclic Ion Blaster (CIB)
Fusion Blaster (FB)
Plasma Rifle (PR)
Missile Pod (MP)
Support Systems: Multiple options for improved accuracy, protection, or movement (e.g. Shield Generator, Target Lock).
Drones: Drones are now equipment that gives the unit bonus abilities, instead of separate models (as in previous editions).
💡 Why choose a Commander?
The Commander is crucial because it:
Lead Units: It can lead Crisis Battlesuits (or other units) and give them its powerful abilities and special strategies.
Provides Command Points (CP): As a leader, it often provides a way to regain or use CP advantageously.
High Firepower: No matter which variant you choose, the Commander is a powerful shooter in its own right.
