Street Fighter

Street Fighter is a legendary fighting game series from Capcom, known for iconic characters like Ryu, Chun-Li, and Ken, and has been a cornerstone of fighting games since 1987.

Street Fighter first launched in 1987 , but it was 1991 's Street Fighter II that really put the series on the map. That game established many of the standards for one-on-one fighting games, such as special attacks, combos, and character choices with unique styles. The series has since grown to include over six main games , several spin-offs, and crossover titles, and has sold more than 56 million units globally.

The games revolve around the World Warrior Tournament , where various warriors from all over the world fight against each other. Each character has their own background, fighting style, and motivation. Notable characters include:

  • Ryu – a disciplined karate practitioner with Hadoken energy attacks

  • Chun-Li – the world's first female fighting game character, known for her lightning-fast kicks

  • Ken – Ryu's rival and friend, with a more flamboyant style

  • M. Bison – the main villain and leader of the evil organization Shadaloo

The latest installment, Street Fighter 6 , is set to launch in 2023 and introduces a World Tour mode with a single-player story, as well as improved graphics and new characters. The series has also inspired films, comics, and anime , and a new live-action film is planned for 2026 , starring Jason Momoa and David Dastmalchian, among others.

Street Fighter has shaped fighting game culture and continues to be relevant with new releases and tournaments around the world.
