Whether it's for Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar, a building kit is Games Workshop's name for a box that contains the parts to create one or more miniature figures.

1. Contents and Components
🏭 Sprue (Casting frame)
This is the most important content in the box. The figures' parts are attached to one or more plastic frames (sprues).
Miniature Parts: All the individual parts you need: head, arms, legs, torso, weapons, armor plates and small details.
Options: Many kits come with optional heads, weapons and equipment, allowing you to customize your model (known as "Customization" or "Wargear Options" ).
Bases: Suitable plastic bases to which the figures will be attached after assembly.

A detailed guide that shows you exactly which parts to use and in what order to glue them together. For new players, this can be as challenging as building Lego!
🃏 Game information (Warscroll)
Often a reference card (Warscroll/Datasheet) is included, which lists the character's game rules, weapon statistics, and special abilities for use in the tabletop game.
2. Purpose and Process
The main purpose of the building kit is to bring the figure to life before painting it. The process usually involves:
Cutting: Use wire cutters or hobby shears to detach the parts from the casting frame.
Cleaning: Using a knife or file to remove small plastic residues ( "Flash" ) where the parts were attached to the frame.
Assembly: Glue the parts together with quick glue or plastic glue.
(Note: Some kits, especially starter kits, are "Push-Fit" and do not require glue, but most complete kits do.)
Painting: Applying paint and details to complete the model.
