The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller works great with the very first Switch model (launched in 2017). In fact, it was designed specifically for this console.
Here's the most important thing you need to know about using the Pro Controller on your first Switch:
How to connect it (first time)
You can connect it in two easy ways:
Wired (easiest): Place your Switch in its dock. Using the included USB cable, connect the controller to one of the USB ports on the side or back of the dock. The controller will automatically pair with the console.
Wireless: Go to "Controllers" on the home screen -> "Change Grip/Order" . Press and hold the small, round SYNC button on the top of the controller (next to the charging port) until the lights on the bottom of the controller start to flash.
Benefits of the Pro Controller on your Switch
Better precision: The analog sticks are larger and have more resistance than on the Joy-Cons, which is especially noticeable in games like Zelda or Fortnite .
No "Drift": The Pro Controller is far less prone to the well-known "Joy-Con drift" problem.
The battery king: It lasts for about 40 hours , while most other modern controllers (like for PS5 or Xbox) often only last for 6–10 hours.
