T'au Empire Pathfinder Teams are essential reconnaissance units and one of the main sources of Markerlights for a T'au army. They are the eyes and ears of the T'au commander.

🌟 Pathfinder Team – Overview

Pathfinders are light infantry units whose primary role is to operate ahead of the main force to scout out the enemy, not necessarily engage in direct combat. Their primary function is to use their Markerlights to "paint" enemy targets, making them easier for other T'au units (such as Battlesuits and Fire Warriors) to hit.

📦 Kit Contents

A standard T'au Empire Pathfinder Team plastic kit usually contains enough parts to build:

  • 10 T'au Pathfinders: These can be built in different poses (standing, kneeling, crouching) and have light reconnaissance armor.

  • Main Weapon: Each Pathfinder is usually equipped with a Pulse Carbine and a Markerlight (Laser Marker).

Special Weapons and Drones

The set also includes a number of options for arming specific models in the team, including:

  • Special Weapons (Gunners):

    • Rail Rifle: A powerful sniper weapon, very effective against armor and enemy leaders.

    • Ion Rifle: A versatile energy weapon with the ability to fire a powerful supercharged beam.

    • Grenade Launcher: To launch various types of grenades (such as EMP grenades).

  • Special drones (following Pathfinders):

    • Recon Drone: A large drone that can often be equipped with a Burst Cannon and helps lead the Pathfinders' reconnaissance.

    • Pulse Accelerator Drone: Improves the range of the T'au's Pulse weapons.

    • Grave Inhibitor Drone: Can slow enemy advance in the vicinity.

Pathfinders are particularly popular in the Kill Team game, where one such set often gives you enough models to build a complete and competitive team, with all the specialized weapon and drone options.

💡 Markerlights: The Key to T'au Victory

Markerlights are what truly defines Pathfinders. In the game, T'au players use Markerlights to build up markers on a target. The more markers, the better the bonuses for subsequent T'au units that fire at the target (such as better hit probability).

Pathfinders are therefore a priority for T'au players, as they lay the foundation for the devastating firefights the T'au army is known for.
