One of the most shocking moments in this installment is the revelation of Norman , Ruby's father. It turns out that Norman, the Gym Leader of Petalburg City, has been aware of the threat all along, and his absence was due to him attempting to control Groudon to protect Hoenn.

This realization adds depth to Ruby and Norman's strained relationship and shows the dark burden that rests on Hoenn's strongest trainers.
