Nintendo is a Japanese company and one of the world's largest manufacturers of video games and game consoles, known for iconic characters such as Mario, Link and Pikachu.
Founded in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi in Kyoto, Japan, Nintendo began as a manufacturer of handmade playing cards called hanafuda . In the 1970s, the company moved into electronic entertainment and became a pioneer in the video game industry.
